Roles and responsibilities of a Business Analyst

The roles and responsibilities of a business analyst roles and responsibilities involve enabling an enterprise to articulate its needs and the rationale for change and to design and describe solutions that can deliver value.  In other words, at its most basic level, the roles and responsibilities of a business analyst are defining needs and recommending solutions that deliver value to stakeholders

Business analysis is a growing profession and has emerged as one of the best practices across the globe. Business Analysis is a career path that drags back and forth between IT and business. Like I said in the History of Business Analysis page, Business Analysis does not only apply to the IT field, it cuts across disciplines.

The Business Analyst role is a multi-faceted role. As a “Solution provider”, the business analyst is responsible for investigating business needs and problems. Thereby, capturing requirements for improvement and coming up with a solution that aligns with the business goals. Furthermore, through research and collaborating with the stakeholders, the business analysts build up a solid understanding of the current processes within an enterprise and carefully analyze the information to identify the best way to implement change.

Other common job titles for people who perform business analysis include:

 Business Architect,
 Business systems analyst
 Data analyst
 Enterprise analysts
 Management Consultant
 Product owner
 Process analysts
 System analysts
 Product Manager
 Requirement Engineer

RESPONSIBILITIES OF A BUSINESS ANALYST

Business Analysts play a huge role in recommending and aligning solutions with the need of the stakeholders. Often times, the activities that business analysts perform include the following:

 Identify problems and opportunities for improvement in business operations and processes,
 Gather relevant documents and requirements
 Analyzing the needs and solutions,
 Interact with the business stakeholders and subject matter experts in order to understand their problems and needs
 Devising strategies to design or modify business systems or processes
 Sometimes, they help test the system and create system documentation and user manuals
