MoP Introduction

What is MoP?

The word MoP is an acronym for Management of Portfolio, it is a management course that combines the program aspect of MoP and the project management methodologies of PRINCE2. It is structured to focus on the effective coordination or management of existing processes such as strategic planning, investment assessment and programme and project management.

Although it takes from MSP and PRINCE2, it does not go into deeper details of programmes or project management. However, it presents programs and project management from a strategic perspective, coordinating processes and giving an overview of changes and how they can be managed on a day to day basis.

By definition, MOP is a well-structured course of study that has to do with the coordination of existing strategic processes and decisions that create an enabling environment for changes within an organization and the regular day-to-day businesses of the same organization.

It highlights all the activities of change that occurs, the content of the portfolio, the cost and the risks involved, the impact of these changes on the day to day business activities etc.

 

MoP accreditation

MoP Foundation Qualification

This is the elementary phase, designed for those who are those individuals who are just being introduced to the course for the first time. More importantly, this qualification is designed to check and attest that a candidate has adequate knowledge and understanding fit enough to make him an informed member and be able to take on any role in the portfolio management offices.

 

MoP Practitioner Qualification

This is the second qualification and it is meant for those individuals that have taken the foundation qualification and has been confirmed to be fit and be able to be an informed member.

The idea of this qualification is to first confirm if a candidate has acquired enough knowledge and understanding of how to effectively apply and structure the MoP guidance for the purpose of analyzing data, documentation and the different roles in a given scenario used to illustrate a real-life situation.

Unlike the certification exams for the Practitioner qualification, the training doesn’t have any eligibility criteria or prerequisite. It is for those individuals or group of individuals who desire to have the knowledge of the course and ultimately get certified.

Foundation Qualification

Eligibility criteria

Eligibility criteria are different for the two qualifications and we have highlighted below:

    The foundation qualification does not have any prerequisite or eligibility criteria. It is for any individual or group of individuals who are genuinely interested in taking the course and get certified. However, a fair knowledge of the course will be of advantage.

    The Practitioner qualification requires that candidates must have taken the foundation course and passed the exam before being eligible to register.

 

Exam format

The Exam format is the way the certification is structured. We advise that prospective candidates know these formats and familiarize themselves with it before the examination day. Furthermore, this will help them know what to expect on the exam day.

The Examination format is different for the two qualifications as we have highlighted below;

Foundation qualification

    Multiple choice examination questions

    50 questions per paper

    25 marks required to pass (out of 50 available) – 50%

    40 minutes’ duration

    Closed book.

Practitioner Qualification

    Objective testing format

    Four questions per paper with 20 marks available per question – all question items will be worth one mark, making the total number of marks available per paper 80

    Three hours allowed Open book exam (MoP guide only)

    40 marks required (out of 80 available) to pass – 50%.

Is the fee for the exam and training combined?

No, the training and the exam are two different things as individuals can decide to take one leaving the other. Therefore, the exam fee is not included in the training fee and vice versa.

What is the duration of the training?

The training lasts for only three days. During this period, the trainer covers extensively the entire MoP syllabus and even has enough time for revisions.

What time does the training starts and ends each day?

The training starts at 8:30 am and ends by 5:00 pm with tea and lunch breaks in between. Participants are admonished to arrive latest by 8:20 am

Does the exam come immediately after the training?

Yes for those who are ready to take the exam after the training and NO for those who are not ready. Persons who are not ready can choose a later date that will be convenient for them.

How and when is the exam offered?

The exams are offered via paper-based tests available at the Harrybaker Training Institute

When do I get to know my result?

Candidates will know their results few minutes after the exams. This is possible because Harrybaker Training Institute has on – the ground scanner that marks immediately.

What type of certificate will I get?

You will get a course completion certificate from us if you trained with us, and you will also get a professional certificate from the exam institute after passing your exams.

How do I get my certificate?

Your electronic certificate will be available to download from the candidate portal and your name added the successful candidate database. Paper certificates are available on request.

For how long are the certificates valid?

There is no defined validity period for certificates, and they do not expire.
